Vitamin A Deficiency Symptoms

Everyone is concerned about getting enough vitamins. With the recent surge in vitamin supplements, it is common to try and decide if that is right for you. Are you getting enough of the Vitamin A that you are told you need? There is a difference between not having quite enough Vitamin A and having a deficiency. A Vitamin A deficiency can not only keep you from enjoying the benefits of the vitamin, but it can also cause you even further health problems. Since vision is affected positively by Vitamin A, it makes sense that it could be impacted by a deficiency as well. In fact, the deficiency could be so bad that you end up with a total vision loss. It is easy to brush off things like dry hair, dry skin, acne and peeling nails. However, these are all signs of a Vitamin A deficiency. If you have no reason for the sudden change in your hair, skin and nails then it might be that you are lacking in a much needed vitamin.

Some of the symptoms of the deficiency are going to be a little more serious and may not be brushed off as easy. For instance, you may find that bones are slow in formation. There may be some serious dental issues going on with the teeth. You might even notice that you get colds more often or are plagued with sinusitis. All of these are symptoms that come with a Vitamin A deficiency. If you are experiencing them and believe that you are not getting enough Vitamin A, then you might want to increase your consumption.

Believe it or not, the symptoms can get even more extreme. Vitamin A deficiency can cause a sudden and rapid weight loss. Generally it would be noticeable and it would come when you were not really trying to lose weight. You might also notice that you suffer from bladder infections and urinary tract infections more often. These are all signs that you have not been getting enough Vitamin A.

The big question is whether or not you can get plenty of Vitamin A in your diet. Perhaps you have been eating foods that you find high in Vitamin A and yet you still have Vitamin A deficiency symptoms. Unfortunately, most foods that are rich in vitamins will lose potency with time. The time transporting the food to the store, the time it is for sale, the processing used and even the cooking can all deplete natural vitamins. Even foods that are rich in vitamins will suddenly have little to no nutrition. For the average person, a supplement is needed to maintain the right vitamins and minerals in the body. If you follow the dosage instructions then you can be sure that you are getting the right vitamins in your body for the best possible health.
